Groups opposed to requiring photo identification at the polls planned to file a lawsuit to prevent the voter ID law from taking full effect at the November elections. Proponents of the lawsuit say this law would disenfranchise the poor, elderly, and minorities cannot obtain proper documents such as birth certificates in order to procure voter ID, and that the state must demonstrate that voter fraud is taking place in order to place such requirements. Supporters of the law say this is simply a common-sense effort to protect the integrity of the voting process and believe the law will withstand legal scrutiny.
