A Mooresville woman was awarded $5 million due to a misdiagnosis years ago at Methodist Hospital. Ms. Smith went into the emergency room in July 2000 with a ruptured diaphragm but was mistakenly diagnosed with a urinary tract infection and muscle strain. Due to her condition deteriorating, Ms. Smith continued seeing doctors over the following weeks. An emergency surgery confirmed a correct diagnosis but Ms. Smith suffers still today.
